Man, child dead in fatal accident in Pennsylvania

A man police say may have been experiencing a medical emergency is dead following a serious car crash. Pennsylvania police are still investigating the fatal accident that also claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy and sent two other people to the hospital. Thankfully no one else was injured in the crash. 

According to the police report, the 44-year-old man may have suffered some sort of medical emergency, causing him to lose consciousness behind the wheel on Nov. 25. His vehicle veered into oncoming traffic on Interstate 81, passing over a grassy median. He then crashed headlong into a southbound tractor trailer. 

The man and the boy were both killed in the impact. A 42-year-old woman and an 11-month old baby were both injured and were rushed to local hospitals with unknown injuries. The driver of the truck was uninjured and has not been charged with a crime. 

The relationship, if any, of the car occupants was not disclosed. Under Pennsylvania law, the existence of a family relationship does not bar a claim for personal injuries or wrongful death. While a medical condition may provide the reason why the fatal accident took place, it will not necessarily excuse the driver’s estate from culpability. Clearly, there are a number of issues that must be addressed before any insurance claims or civil litigation can be resolved, and the first thought is for the safety and well-being of the two accident victims that survived the tragedy.
