4 injured in Pennsylvania car accident

Four people are in the hospital following a two-car crash in Middleton Township on Feb. 4, according to reports from local news agencies. The car accident that Pennsylvania State Police responded to before 8 a.m. is still being investigated by authorities. However, one of the two drivers involved has been cited with failing to yield. 

The police report indicates a 64-year-old man was driving northbound when his vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle driven by a 26-year-old man. It has been confirmed that the 64-year-old did not ensure the intersection had cleared when he entered it, precipitating the crash. His vehicle struck a fire hydrant before coming to rest. 

The other driver and his three passengers all suffered injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver’s injuries were described as severe, while all three passengers had moderate injuries. The driver deemed to have caused the collision escaped unharmed. The man has been cited for summary stop and yield signs. 

Despite the lack of criminal charges, fault was determined in this car accident by Pennsylvania authorities. The occupants of the other car will be entitled under state law to file individual personal injury suits against the 64-year-old driver. These suits would be handled in civil court, and would require evidence of driver negligence to be presented in court. Upon a finding of liability, the court would adjudicate specific items of monetary damages claimed by the plaintiffs.
