Drunk driving accident leads to charges for Pennsylvania woman

Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated is widely regarded as an irresponsible move. This becomes even more true when the decision leads to more serious consequences. That is the case for a Pennsylvania woman who has been charged with DUI after a drunk driving accident sent another driver to the hospital.

Police responded to an emergency call on June 12 to discover a 60-year-old woman had crashed her vehicle into another car. She was injured in the crash, as was the driver of the other vehicle, who was taken to hospital with injuries not described by authorities. The officer responding administered a roadside sobriety test and determined the 60-year-old was intoxicated either with drugs or alcohol. She was arrested on the scene.

The woman has now been charged with DUI, improper lane change, reckless driving, and assault by auto. These are considerable charges in Pennsylvania, and carry hefty consequences. It is unknown if the woman is in police custody or if she has been released on bail at the time of this writing. No court date has yet been set, and the condition of the other driver is also not known.

A drunk driving accident has the potential to be devastating. Thankfully — in this situation — no one was killed by the alleged reckless behavior of the first driver, but someone was injured. That person will be entitled to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the offending driver in a Pennsylvania civil court for damages sustained during the accident and any associated damages that may accrue.
