Wrongful death claims possible after bus crash

American travelers know the dangers inherent in road travel. We take precautions to offset those risks each and every time we take to the roads in Pennsylvania, putting on our seat belts and ensuring that our vehicles are safe to operate. However, when we travel by commercial bus, many of us fail to acknowledge that those same dangers exist, even when we are riding in a large commercial vehicle with a professional driver. In the aftermath of a recent bus crash, multiple personal injury and wrongful death suits are possible.

The crash took place on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on a recent Saturday morning. The bus was carrying the Seton Hill University women’s lacrosse team. The team was travelling to play against Millersville University. Upon preliminary investigation, police do not believe that another vehicle was involved in the crash, but are unsure as to the cause.

The driver of the bus, a 61-year-old man, was killed in the crash. In addition, a 30-year-old female coach for the team was also killed. She was six months pregnant at the time of her death, and medical personnel were unable to save her unborn child. In addition, there were multiple injuries by others on the bus at the time of the crash.

Investigators have begun looking into the safety record of the commercial bus company. The bus operator is reportedly up to date on all inspections, according to the Public Utility Commission. As the Pennsylvania investigation continues, additional information may become available concerning the bus and its driver. Should it be determined that the bus operator is responsible for these deaths and injuries, personal injury and wrongful death suits may follow.
