2 dead, 1 injured following buggy/car accident in Pennsylvania

Two people are dead and a third is injured after a vehicle reportedly struck a horse-drawn buggy on Nov. 30, according to local law enforcement. The buggy, operated by members of a local Amish community in the rural Pennsylvania area, was reportedly involved in a car accident around 5:30 in the evening. Police are still investigating the crash, and no charges have yet been filed.

According to early reports, the crash happened on a Lawrence County road when a car apparently struck the buggy. It is unknown at this time whether the driver or any other occupants of the car were injured in the crash. The specifics of how the crash happened are also unclear.

First responders from local medical centers found two of the occupants of the buggy dead upon their arrival. A third occupant was rushed to a local hospital with injuries described as severe. It is unknown whether any other people were in the buggy at the time of the crash. Police have not speculated as to whether speed or alcohol were involved in this accident, and have not filed any formal charges against anyone involved. The investigation is still underway as of this writing.

Pennsylvania drivers in some rural areas are no strangers to the appearance of horse-drawn buggies on their roadways. These slow-moving vehicles are typically well-marked to ensure maximum visibility, but it behooves all drivers to exercise care and caution when attempting to pass or otherwise share the road with a vehicle of this type. If the driver of the car is found responsible for the car accident, the families of the deceased victims and the injured party will have additional backing if they choose to file wrongful death and/or personal injury lawsuits against that driver.
