2 dead in Pennsylvania following car accident

A two-car crash has resulted in two fatalities in Lehigh County. Pennsylvania police responded to the car accident at approximately 2:35 in the afternoon of Feb. 6. So far, both state and local police are investigating the incident, and no formal charges have yet been filed in association with the tragic crash.

According to reports, a man estimated to be between 50 and 55 years old was traveling south on State Route 309 when his vehicle inexplicably crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. His vehicle struck another vehicle coming from the opposite direction head-on. Both the man and his female passenger, estimated to be roughly the same age as the driver, were seriously injured in the accident and were pronounced dead just over an hour later.

There is no word as to the status of the other driver or any potential passengers in the opposing vehicle. Police have not commented on the cause of the accident at this time, but the investigation will likely include toxicology samples and an assessment of the accident area to determine whether speed or inclement weather played a role. The investigation is ongoing as of this report.

When a vehicle crosses the center line of a major roadway, the driver does so at his or her own peril, and sometimes even in defiance of state law. If it is determined by Pennsylvania police that the man acted rashly or irresponsibly in his decision to maneuver his vehicle in this way, his estate could be held financially accountable for the car accident. If this is the case, the family of his passenger and any injured parties in the other vehicle may choose to file a civil suit against him for injury for wrongful death.
