4 dead in Pennsylvania car accident

Four people are dead following a serious accident on Interstate 81, according to local sources. Pennsylvania authorities have reported that a vehicle traveling the wrong way was responsible for a car accident shortly after 1 a.m. on the morning of Jan. 23. The victims have been identified, but there has been no word about whether the wrong-way driver is in custody or facing charges.

According to the limited information provided by the report, a vehicle entered the southbound lanes of I-81 while traveling north on the morning in question. The vehicle collided with a car traveling the other way, killing four people. The ages of the victims 68, 32, 30 and 29. At least some of them appear to have been related.

It is unclear whether the wrong-way driver was one of the fatalities in the crash. Police say their investigation is still underway at this time, and no arrests have been recorded. At this point, authorities are reaching out to next of kin, and no further information is available at this time.

If the wrong-way driver involved in the car accident survived the crash, that individual will likely face Pennsylvania criminal charges for driving the wrong way on the Interstate. Whether or not that driver was killed, the surviving families of the innocent victims are entitled to file wrongful death lawsuits, either against the driver directly or against his estate if he died. Any such civil suit must be based upon evidence of negligence that is found to have caused or substantially contributed to the fatal accident.
