Bus involved in car accident in Pennsylvania

The early morning of Jan. 8 very nearly turned tragic when a bus carrying middle school and high school students collided with a car. Pennsylvania EMT responded to the car accident. Six people, including four children, were transported to local hospitals. As of this report, no charges have been filed.

No details about the nature of the collision have been released by authorities, but it has been confirmed that the accident occurred around 7:10 a.m. in Lebanon County. The bus is said to have collided first with a car and then with the guardrail on the side of the road. A total of four students were injured in the accident, with at least one being transported via ambulance to the hospital.

The two individuals in the car were also hurt and taken for medical care. The exact nature of their injuries, as well as those of the children, are unknown at this time. Parents were notified by school authorities, with many of them coming to pick their children up from the site of the accident. Other children were transported to school by a replacement bus.

As of this report, Pennsylvania police have not spoken about whether one or both drivers were responsible for this car accident. It seems likely that a larger investigation will take place to determine the cause of the crash. If either driver is found to have contributed in a meaningful way to the accident, not only might that driver face criminal charges, the parents of the injured students might also choose to file personal injury suits against the driver(s) and, if relevant, against the bus company and/or owner of the car.
