Court date set for man who fled the scene of an auto accident

While the right thing to do when you are involved a car crash is to stop and provide assistance to those injured, not everyone does what is considered right. Some people that cause an auto accident fail to accept responsibility at the scene of the crash, don’t help people who are injured and flee before police respond to the scene.

Investigators speculate that this may have been what occurred after a car wreck that took place on Route 22 in Bethlehem Township.

A 22-year-old man, who apparently caused the auto accident, is said to have jumped out of his wrecked vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. Unfortunately for him, Bethlehem police officers were able to track him down and apprehend him. He was then arrested.

The crash occurred just before midnight when the man, who is from Allentown, attempted to pass a Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 23-year-old Old Bridge woman. Both vehicles were headed eastbound on Route 22 when the man apparently lost control of his car and struck the Jetta.

He was charged with driving without a license, failure to stop and render aid, causing an accident resulting in damage to property and failure to report an auto accident. His preliminary hearing is currently set for later this month.

The nature and extent of the injuries to the young woman were not released.

Nevertheless, if it is determined that her injuries were caused by the negligence of the accused man, she may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim against him under Pennsylvania law. A successful claim may include reimbursement for medical bills, lost income from work and other damages suffered in the auto accident.
