Pennsylvania officer’s actions lead to serious car accident

There are any number of reasons that a serious wreck can occur. Even though police chases have been known to end in wrecks, one recent car accident had an additional twist. The Pennsylvania officer who police say was responsible for the crash has been charged with several criminal offenses.

The wreck is said to be the outcome of a domestic abuse situation between the officer and his wife. The man was reportedly on duty in his assigned patrol area when, for unknown reasons, he left his designated area and confronted his wife in her vehicle. The officer allegedly struck her about her head and then pursued her in his patrol vehicle.

The man activated his emergency lights and sirens as he followed her car shortly before 2 a.m. At some point in the chase, the wife’s vehicle smashed into another one at a Philadelphia intersection. The driver of that vehicle was critically injured in the collision. Further details regarding the wreck were not reported.

The man, who is a veteran Pennsylvania policeman with 10 years of service, was charged with several crimes, including domestic assault. It is unknown if the wife suffered any injuries in the car accident. The seriously injured victim appears to have the legal grounds for pursuing a personal injury lawsuit in civil court against the party or parties deemed responsible for the collision. An attorney experienced in handling these types of claims can help assess the underlying circumstances and identify all parties who may bear financial responsibility for the victim’s injuries.
