Drunk driving accident under investigation in Pennsylvania

A major Bucks County road was closed for several hours following a serious car accident on the night of March 19, according to local law enforcement. A total of three cars were involved in what Pennsylvania police are calling a possible drunk driving accident. At this time, no individuals have been charged, but police are still waiting for the results of a toxicology test.

The details of the crash are unclear as of this report, as police are still sorting through the evidence. However, it has been confirmed that two people, a woman aged 64 and a 79-year-old man, were killed in the crash.  One of those individuals was pronounced dead at the scene while the other died later in a local hospital. Several other people, including one of the other drivers, were also taken to hospitals with injuries.

One of the three drivers involved was being tested for possible alcohol intoxication, though it was not clear what route police were taking to investigate this possibility. They have confirmed they are still waiting for results of the test, which suggests it was likely a blood test. If the driver is found to have been drunk at the time of the accident, he or she will likely face criminal charges.

A drunk driving accident, especially one causing fatalities, draws scorn from the Pennsylvania community because such accidents are easily preventable. Getting behind the wheel while intoxicated is a choice no driver should make, which is why the criminal charges for such behavior are taken so seriously. Separate from any criminal charges that might be prosecuted, the driver will also be open to personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits should any of the victims or their families choose to file them in civil court.
