1 dead following 2-car accident in Pennsylvania
A driver is dead following a tragic crash on State Route 187, according to local sources. Pennsylvania police are urging witnesses to come forward as they continue to investigate the car accident that caused the death of a 34-year-old man on March 3. So far, no charges have been filed in connection with the case.
Police believe the two vehicles involved in the crash were both headed southbound at the time of the accident. At the moment, it appears a 22-year-old driver was attempting to pass the vehicle driven by the victim, causing the elder driver to lose control of his vehicle. The man’s car left the roadway and rolled multiple times before coming to rest.
The 34-year-old died at the scene, with coroners listing the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the abdomen, chest and head. It is unclear whether the second driver was also injured in any way or if he escaped unscathed. Police are still investigating whether this was the fault of the younger driver — that is, if he was driving recklessly or endangering other drivers through his actions. So far, they have not come to a satisfying conclusion.
Should the evidence or witness testimony point to the first driver being at fault for the car accident, the case could go to criminal trial. Regardless, Pennsylvania law allows the family of the deceased man to take the case to civil court where they could file a wrongful death suit. With sufficient evidence of recklessness, even without a criminal conviction, the civil suit could be successful.
