Tractor trailer accident closes Pennsylvania highway

Two people were injured following a serious crash in Lancaster County, according to local sources. The tractor trailer accident happened around 5 in the morning on Dec. 4. No charges have been filed against the driver who caused the accident, but Pennsylvania police are still investigating the crash. 

According to sources, a tractor trailer hauling some 45,000 pounds of seed was traveling along Route 30 toward Lincoln Highway when the crash occurred. It appears that the 36-year-old driver did not slow down in time to avoid entering Lincoln Highway at a high rate of speed, crashing into a second tractor trailer. The first truck then veered from the road, striking both a pickup truck, a car and a utility pole before coming to a rest.

The driver of the truck was critically injured and rushed to a hospital. The driver of the second tractor trailer was apparently uninjured, as was the driver of the pickup truck. The driver of the car is reported to have been injured in the crash, but his status is currently unknown. Police have not yet filed formal charges against the driver of the first tractor trailer, but this could change in time. 

A tractor trailer accident of this magnitude could have been considerably more devastating than it luckily was. However, an individual not responsible for the crash was injured, which means an investigation by Pennsylvania authorities will be necessary. If it can be proved that the driver did not show enough restraint in operating his vehicle, the injured driver will be entitled to sue for personal injury both the truck operator and possibly his employer.
