Head-on car accident in Lehigh Township injures 2

Two Pennsylvania drivers were seriously injured in a collision in Lehigh Township on April 25. The car accident occurred on a Wednesday afternoon around 4:20 p.m., when a 37-year-old local man veered over the center line of the road and struck a pickup truck head-on. The pickup, operated by a 29-year-old Pennsville resident, caught fire and other motorists stopped to free the driver from his vehicle. The Lehigh Valley driver was knocked unconscious, and the fire department used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate him from his vehicle.

There was no indication why the car driver breached the center line, and the crash is still under investigation. Both injured men were airlifted to St. Luke’s Hospital – Fountain Hill, where the pickup driver was still listed in serious condition on the afternoon following the car accident. The condition of the driver who apparently caused the collision was not immediately known.

A little more than two months earlier, on February 14, the same driver apparently caused another accident, again by crossing the centerline of another local roadway. That collision resulted in serious injuries to himself and a 55-year-old man from Jim Thorpe. He was later charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while intoxicated as well as failure to stay in his lane, reckless driving and other related offenses.

The police report will be something that the driver of the pickup truck will need if he decides to pursue a personal injury claim in connection with the car accident. When injured in an auto accident due to the negligent driving of another, a personal injury claim can be pursued under Pennsylvania law. With the police report and any other relevant evidence, the pickup truck driver can likely seek monetary damages to reimburse him for medical expenses and other damages, including pain and suffering related to the injuries.
