Car accident claims grandmother and one child

Intersections are notorious for accidents that cause serious or fatal injuries. Drivers may accelerate suddenly to get through the intersection before the light changes, and that increase in speed may create even more damage than a crash at normal speeds. A recent car accident in Allentown, Pennsylvania, is one example of a deadly intersection collision.

A 47-year-old woman was driving with three of her grandchildren when she entered an intersection a little after 10:30 p.m. A car driven by a 32-year-old woman was traveling along the cross-street and allegedly failed to stop for the traffic light. She collided with grandmother’s vehicle, killing the grandmother and her 7-year-old granddaughter. It took rescuers considerable time to cut the victims from the mangled car.

The other two children, ages 7 and 8, were also taken to the hospital. The driver who reportedly ran the red light was treated and released. She is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter, six counts of reckless endangerment and numerous other traffic violations. She is currently being held in a county jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Apparently, the woman has a record of several previous offenses, including speeding and running a red light. Learning that a person accused of causing harm in a car accident has habitually disregarded the safety of others may bring further suffering to families in Pennsylvania who have lost loved ones. They may find comfort in seeking the assistance of an attorney to attempt to recover damages.
