Car accident in Pennsylvania claims 3 lives

The tragic deaths of 3 young men on May 5 have left a community in mourning. The car accident saw a vehicle plunge into a pond, killing all three occupants, all Pennsylvania residents. Police are continuing to investigate the possible causes of the crash.

Preliminary reports suggest the men — aged 20, 19 and 18 — were attending a party in a nearby township the night the accident happened. It has not yet been confirmed whether alcohol played a role in the crash, but police believe it to be likely as drinking was occurring at the party. In addition, the men were allegedly consuming alcohol at a local bar prior to the accident. According to reports, it is presumed that the men were on their way back to the party when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pond.

All three were pronounced dead by coroners arriving at the scene. It is unknown whether any were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Apparently several other young men present rushed into the pond to try to save the victims, to no avail.

The loss of young life is always tragic, but it is even more so when the car accident could have been avoided in the first place. Considering all three men were under the legal age in Pennsylvania to be drinking alcohol, the families of the deceased may be able to seek restitution in court in the form of wrongful-death charges. The owners of the home where the party took place, as well as the bar where the men were allegedly drinking, could all be held culpable for providing alcohol to minors and over serving.
