Car accident in Pennsylvania leaves 6-year-old dead

A two-car crash in Pike County resulted in the tragic death of a 6-year-old girl. The car accident, which occurred the afternoon of May 16, took place on Interstate 84. Pennsylvania authorities are still investigating the accident, and so far no criminal charges have been filed.

According to the accident report, a 44-year-old woman was driving on the interstate when she rear-ended another vehicle that had stopped due to construction on the highway. The force of the impact injured both drivers, who were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as moderate. Two passengers in the struck vehicle (including an infant) were unharmed.

Sadly, a 6-year-old girl in the first car was apparently not restrained in any way at the time of the crash. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead of her injuries. The relationship between the driver and the child is unknown at this time.

Even if the child is somehow related to the driver, there is still a possibility that her family could seek monetary damages against the driver responsible for the car accident. Pennsylvania law says that a civil suit filed against the driver for wrongful death could be processed separately from any criminal charges that might be filed. If evidence exists that the driver negligently contributed to the accident, the case for liability would appear strong.
