Drivers urged to slow down to avoid a possible car accident

First responders and police are urging drivers to proceed with caution when traveling on Pennsylvania roadways. Several recent head-on collisions in one county have left four dead and multiple others injured. Authorities cautioned that many accidents are caused by drivers who are distracted, speeding or acting aggressively. Regardless, using caution while operating a motor vehicle can help to cut down on the likelihood of being involved in a car accident.   

After on-scene crash investigations at each of the separate crash sites, police ruled out weather conditions or road issues as the cause of any of the accidents. In fact, the Pennsylvania State Police believe that motor vehicle crashes are rarely just accidents. In most circumstances, citations are issued to one or more drivers. 

PennDOT receives reports from police departments about accidents involving property damage or bodily injury. Officials then investigate to see what can be done to improve visibility or driver safety. Sometimes, making upgrades to signs or painting the roads helps to decrease accidents, but driver negligence is something over which PennDOT has no control.
