Single-car accident in Pennsylvania kills 2, injures 2

Police are still in the process of piecing together the particulars of a single-car crash that happened in the early morning of April 8. Very little is known at this time about the car accident that claimed two lives and sent two other people to a local hospital. Pennsylvania police are continuing to investigate as of this report. 

Details about the accident are sparse, but it has been confirmed that around 2:30 a.m., a vehicle carrying four people apparently crashed into a building. It was not made clear in the report which building was struck. However, officers on the scene did not believe the impact had made the building unsafe enough to vacate. 

According to first responders, two women, one of whom was the driver, were hospitalized with injuries of unknown severity. A man and a woman who had been riding in the back seat of the car were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. For the moment, police have not publicly speculated whether recklessness, negligence or intoxication on the part of the driver played a role in the crash.

However, if Pennsylvania police determine the driver was somehow at fault, she could be facing criminal charges pertaining to the car accident once she is released from the hospital. Regardless, the surviving passenger and the families of the deceased victims may also choose to sue her in civil court for personal injury and wrongful death. Even if a criminal conviction is not obtained, proof of negligence on the part of the driver is enough to impose liability in a civil case.
