1 dead, 2 injured in Pennsylvania Turnpike car accident

One man is dead and two others have been injured after a single-vehicle accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Pennsylvania authorities responded to the car accident on April 17 to discover a 21-year-old man dead. So far, it is unclear whether the driver involved in the accident will face charges for his role in the deaths and injuries.

According to the accident report, the vehicle was traveling on the Northwest Extension when the 20-year-old male driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The car spun several times before crashing into an embankment. The 21-year-old fatal victim was apparently ejected from a backseat passenger location. Arriving medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Two other passengers, who have not been publicly identified by police, were also injured in the crash. They were taken by ambulance to local hospitals with unknown injuries. There is no word on the condition of the driver at this time. Police have not elaborated on whether they believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, nor have they stated whether the driver will face formal charges.

If the Pennsylvania police investigation turns up evidence the driver violated the law with regard to the car accident, they may choose to file criminal charges. At the same time, the family of the deceased passenger and the injured passengers are also entitled to file wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits, respectively. These civil court suits are not contingent upon a criminal charge or conviction, though they do require evidence of negligence that is deemed to have caused or contributed to the accident and injuries that resulted.
