2 women injured in tractor trailer accident in Pennsylvania
Two women were injured in Philadelphia on May 11 after their vehicle got caught under a truck, according to local sources. Pennsylvania first-responders acted quickly enough to ensure the two women were not killed in the unusual tractor trailer accident. At this point, police are still trying to determine what caused the crash, and no charges have yet been filed.
Eyewitnesses say the southbound UPS truck connected with the bumper of the vehicle traveling in front of it on the Northeast Extension. The end result was the car becoming trapped under the truck’s trailer. The 55-year-old female driver of the car and her 78-year-old passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews. Mechanics were required to extricate the car’s driver.
Both women suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a local hospital. The truck driver did not appear to be injured. Police are still investigating the particulars of the accident, and they have not yet determined how the presence of the car escaped the truck driver’s attention. They have not filed charges against the driver at this time, but their investigation is ongoing.
Should the continuing Pennsylvania police investigation into this tractor trailer accident reveal that the UPS driver was in some way negligent or reckless in his operation of a company vehicle, the driver could face criminal charges and possibly disciplinary action from his company. Regardless of whether criminal charges are filed, the two injured women will be entitled to file personal injury suits against the driver and possibly against UPS as well. If sufficient evidence of the driver’s negligence exists, monetary damages may be paid out by a civil court.
