Car accident in Pennsylvania kills 1, injures 3

Three people were injured and one was killed following a serious accident on Route 100 on July 25, according to local sources. The two-vehicle car accident resulted in the death of one of the drivers, a 38-year-old Pennsylvania woman. The accident is still under investigation by local and state authorities, and so far, no charges have been filed.

The accident report indicates the now-deceased driver was transporting two passengers while traveling south on Route 100 when she drifted into the northbound lane where she struck another vehicle head-on. The driver of the other vehicle, a 52-year-old man, had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital.

The woman and her two passengers also had to be removed from their vehicle and were transferred to the same local hospital for treatment. The driver of the opposing vehicle suffered a broken leg, but the conditions of the woman’s two passengers are currently unknown. The woman later succumbed to her injuries. Police have not indicated why her vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic, and have not speculated as to whether alcohol or reckless driving were factors.

If Pennsylvania police determine the deceased woman was somehow culpable for the car accident, obviously no criminal charges will be filed. However, her passengers and the other driver will be entitled under state law to file personal injury suits against her estate. These suits would be civil in nature and would require competent evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the driver for the court to rule in favor of the victims.
