Pennsylvania police seek driver responsible for car accident

Police are searching for a driver they believe was responsible for a car crash that sent several children to the hospital. Pennsylvania authorities are still investigating the particulars of the car accident involving a school bus that took place on the morning of May 21. So far, the driver has not been brought in for questioning, but police are continuing their search.

According to the accident record, a school bus in southwest Philadelphia was struck by a car around 7:15 a.m., causing damage to both vehicles. Three children who were on board the bus at the time of the accident suffered injuries and were taken to the Children’s Hospital. They were treated and released later in the day.

Apparently, the driver responsible for the accident fled the scene before authorities arrived. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and aid in the ongoing investigation. Police believe the driver was speeding at the time of the accident, so in conjunction with fleeing the scene, it is likely the driver will face criminal charges when found.

Leaving the scene of a car accident is a punishable crime which will be dealt with by Pennsylvania legal authorities. However, the families of the injured children may also wish to pursue separate action against the driver once he or she is apprehended by police. Personal injury suits are possible in this case, especially if the police document that the driver was responsible for the accident that injured the children. Such suits are handled separately from criminal hearings in a civil setting.
