Woman killed in Pennsylvania car accident

A woman is dead following a serious car crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, local law enforcement has reported. The car accident took place on April 10 near Monroeville. Currently, one casualty has been reported, and no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Details of this accident are somewhat unclear at the time of this writing, but it appears a man drove into the back of a tractor trailer at the toll booth near Exit 57. The tractor trailer was stopped at the time of the crash, and there is no word as to whether the driver of the trailer was injured in the collision. Police have reported that one woman, an 83-year-old, went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to a local hospital, where she later passed away.

The driver of the car was reportedly not injured, and while it was not made explicit, it appears the victim was a passenger in his vehicle. Police have not commented on whether they believe alcohol or careless driving were factors in the accident, but the investigation is still underway. No formal charges have been filed against the driver of the car or of the tractor trailer.

This car accident leaves many unanswered questions, which Pennsylvania authorities are in the process of trying to answer. If it is determined the driver of the car was in some way responsible for the accident, he could be held criminally responsible for the death of his passenger. However, regardless of the outcome of a criminal case, the family of the victim will be entitled to file suit against the driver in a civil setting.
