1 dead in car accident near Jonestown, Pennsylvania

A three-car collision on Route 22 the evening of Aug. 12 has claimed the life of one of the drivers involved, according to local sources. Pennsylvania police are investigating the cause of the car accident, which killed a 19-year-old man and left another driver in critical condition. So far, police have not filed any charges. 

State police are still investigating the crash, so no formal accident report has been made public at this time. However, it has been confirmed that the accident involved three vehicles and that the driver of one of them, the 19-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Life Lion airlift, which had initially been called to airlift him to a hospital, was cancelled when he was pronounced. 

A second driver involved in the crash was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital. It is unknown if that individual will survive. A third driver escaped injury, and spoke to the speed with which the accident happened. The force of the crash knocked out power to 26 local homes for several hours. 

Eventually, Pennsylvania police will determine who was responsible for the car accident. If it turns out the deceased driver was responsible, the injured party could file a personal injury suit against his estate and anyone with ownership interest in the car. If the injured party is deemed at fault, the family of the deceased man will be entitled under state law to file a wrongful death suit on his behalf. In either case, compelling evidence of the given driver’s culpability will be required for the case to be successful in civil court.
