1 dead in Pennsylvania car accident

A car carrying American Idol hopefuls was involved in a serious crash on the evening of Aug. 2, according to local sources. Pennsylvania police have identified the individual who was killed in the car accident that also injured five other people. At the moment, the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash has not been charged with a crime, but police say the incident is still under investigation.

Witnesses of the accident say the SUV involved in the crash was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred. The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle apparently lost control of the vehicle after attempting to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder of the road. The vehicle was seen crossing several northbound lanes before rolling several times and ejecting passengers.

The driver and a 16-year-old passenger were injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital, but they suffered the least of the damage. Three others were also injured more seriously, and a 20-year-old woman, who had apparently just auditioned for the popular “American Idol” television show, was killed on the scene. Police have yet to file charges.

Should police determine the individual driving the car was operating the vehicle unsafely, it is possible further action will be taken. Given the driver is a minor, it is possible the owners of the vehicles and/or her legal guardians may be held accountable for the car accident. In addition, Pennsylvania state law will allow the individuals injured and the family of the deceased passenger to file civil suits against whoever owns the car.
