2 people injured in Pennsylvania car accident

Two people are in the hospital following a collision between a motor vehicle and a horse-drawn carriage, according to local sources. Pennsylvania authorities responded to the car accident that sent an unidentified man and woman in Kutztown to the hospital on the afternoon of Sept. 17. So far, no charges have been filed.

The details of the accident are still under investigation by authorities, but it has been confirmed that the accident was precipitated by the driver of the car. Apparently the driver was attempting to pass the carriage by entering the oncoming lane and was trying to get back into the right lane to avoid an incoming vehicle. The car clipped the side of the buggy, causing it to overturn.

A man and a woman were ejected from the buggy as a result of the collision. The extent of their injuries is unknown, but it has been confirmed they were both taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the car was reportedly uninjured, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. Police have not yet filed charges against the driver of the car, but their investigation is ongoing at this time.

If Pennsylvania police determine the driver of the car was driving negligently or recklessly when the car accident occurred, that driver could be charged with a crime for his or her role in the crash. Separately, the man and woman injured in the buggy may choose to file personal injury suits against the driver. A criminal charge and/or conviction is not necessary in order for these suits to be filed, but evidence of negligence or recklessness would be necessary for the court to consider awarding financial damages.
