3 injured, 2 killed in Pennsylvania car accident

A single-vehicle crash has caused untold tragedy in Lancaster County, according to officials. The single-car accident that prompted Pennsylvania authorities to respond with emergency crews around 5 a.m. on Nov. 9 caused two deaths and sent three other people to a local hospital. State police are still investigating what caused the crash, an investigation hampered by the fact that the driver is still in critical care.

Details regarding the accident are incomplete, but it appears the minivan being driven by a 20-year-old man left the road for an unknown reason. The van then crashed into a tree, killing two female passengers on impact. The driver and the other two passengers, one of whom was a 15-year-old boy, were rushed to a local hospital in conditions described as serious.

Police have not commented at this point on what they think caused the accident, but it does not appear to be the fault of intoxication on the part of the driver. The investigation will continue until a suitable explanation has been determined. If the driver is deemed to be responsible for the car accident either through inaction or recklessness, he could face criminal charges stemming from the injuries and deaths caused by the crash.

Additionally, parties injured and the families of those killed in the car accident will be entitled under Pennsylvania law to file wrongful death and personal injury suits against him in a civil capacity.  These suits would be handled separately from any criminal proceedings in a civil court. They would require appropriate evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the driver.
