Driver accused of texting before car accident that killed woman

One of the most popular tools that has changed the way people communicate is using cell phones to text instead of calling. Unfortunately, this technology has also lead to more than one fatal car accident due to drivers using text while driving. Recently, a trial has been set for a Pennsylvania woman who was allegedly texting before a crash.

According to the reports, a 21-year-old woman was driving a vehicle towards an intersection. She reportedly then ran the red light and smashed into another vehicle. That vehicle then was sent into a spin that caused it to collide with a 56-year-old woman who was traversing a crosswalk at the time.

The pedestrian was killed in that collision. The young woman who was driving the first car was supposedly using her cell phone in the moments before the wreck. Investigators purportedly determined that the phone was being used at that time by reviewing her device. However, the accused driver’s legal representative claims that video recordings appear to indicate that the text messages were sent in the moments after the wreck.

The trial date has not been set at this time. It is unknown whether anyone in the second car suffered in any injuries in this fatal car accident. The pedestrian’s family are now coping with the loss of their loved one. Along with the physical and emotional losses that they are enduring, they may also have sustained significant monetary losses as well. Separate from any criminal charges drivers may face in these tragic circumstances, Pennsylvania families may also elect to file a civil suit against the parties responsible in order to attempt to recoup these financial damages.
